Get to Know Me: 10 Questions for Jordyne

Let’s play a game of 10 questions— if you catch me on the campaign trail, let’s talk about it!

  1. What inspired you to run for a position on the school board?

To be quite honest, I was afraid. I promised myself that when I was interested in something but a little too scared to take the leap that I would do it afraid. I know I am more than capable of doing this work and that I am quite frankly the best person for the job. I care about young people, I care about the amazing adults who work in our school buildings, and I am a strong proponent for public education. I am exactly the person who should run. I hope my leap of faith and demonstrated commitment to public education inspires someone reading this to run too. We need you!

  2. What is your vision for the future of our school district?

My vision for Wake County is for every single student has an opportunity to grow, develop, and succeed in life in a path of their choosing. I want every educator and parent to beam with pride at the accomplishments of our students and their part in making it happen. I am committed to helping to create a school district that is the paradigm of engagement, resourcing, student wellness and achievement and staff satisfaction where everyone feels welcomed.

  3. How do you plan to involve parents, teachers, and community members in the decision-making process?

I plan to listen. I plan to be transparent, thoughtful, and considerate of the all of the members of our school community. I want to make myself as accessible as possible to ensure that I have the opportunity to hear from different perspectives throughout District 3. I will listen and pledge to give careful consideration to the input from our community and our talented staff.

  4. How do you see the role of technology in education evolving, and how will you support its integration in our schools?

I love technology. I am a technologist at heart and often an early adopter. I think technology is a powerful tool for enhancing and expanding our knowledge of many things. I want students to know and understand technology so they can be competitive and prepared for opportunities that come their way. I also encourage the responsible use of technology in ways that ensure our students are safe, well, and are using technology rather than being used by it. I will also be looking for ways to make sure that all of our students have access to the technology they need to succeed.

  5. What is your favorite book and why?

I have so many favorites it is hard to pick. Two that come to mind as formative for me are the Babysitters Club series and Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison.

  6. Can you share a favorite memory from your own school days?

My favorite memory from school was in Ms. Serio’s class when we watched the Little Mermaid. I burst out in song and sang Part of Your World. Ms. Serio and the rest of the class were shocked and impressed! It was one of those days where you feel like you get to be your whole and complete self. I wish that for every kid.

  7. What was your favorite subject in school and why?
English! I’ve always been a writer and I love reading. Literature changed my life.

  8. What album do you have on repeat right now?
Songs in the Key of Life, Stevie Wonder. Have you ever heard it before? It is perfect.

  9. How do you pronounce your name?
    Jor-DEEN (thanks for asking!)

  10. If you had three wishes to improve our school district, what would they be?
Funding, funding, funding… for all the things!
